Scoring of 'Part A' tasks

Greetings,

When one clicks on the ‘View Deadlines’ hyperlink beside a challenge, it is stated that the displayed scores are for “Part B only”.

However, challenges also include a “Part A” task. Is this task worth marks? If so, are these marks known to participants. If not, is there a reason (other than fun!) to do the Part A challenges?

[EDIT, Harry: Part A is marked on accuracy. The prizes are for Part B only, which is marked on accuracy and speed. Part A sometimes contains hints to part B! (But not always)]
