Well, it’s finished now but:
Perform statistical/frequency analysis. From this it’s pretty obvious that it’s monoalphabetic substitution, so trust that for the time being. If you try this you’ll find that it’s not working, so something else must be in play.
If you reverse the text, then try again, you’ll notice it works.
